Dragons, Dwarves and Giants

Team up in the dwarf city of Freeport, set out into a private zone, and fight your way through every monster to its boss. Monsters pick their targets by threat, they never come back once killed, and there is no clock: take a zone as fast or as slowly as your team likes.

Your first hour

From the gate to the desert

A new character arrives in Freeport's plaza with a quest already in the tracker at the top right. A gold arrow points to wherever the next step happens; walk up to Emperor Kaine and press E (X on a controller, or tap the prompt) to talk. Kaine's training takes you from level 1 to level 5, the level the Desert of Ra is built for. Already know your way around? The first conversation lets you skip it.

  1. Welcome to Freeport

Speak with Emperor Kaine in his castle on the west side of the plaza, choose a class, buy a Healing Draught at the potion stall, and report back.

    Reward 100 XP, 20 gold · reaches level 2
  2. Pests in the Fields

Leave by the West Gate and kill 6 Field Spiders or Dung Beetles in the Western Commonlands. They leave you alone until you strike first.

    Reward 240 XP, 40 gold · reaches level 3
  3. Bones in the Hills

Further west: 5 Cave Spiders or Armored Beetles, then 4 Decaying Skeletons.

    Reward 450 XP, 60 gold · reaches level 4
  4. Ready for the Road

Through the East Gate to the old barrows: 6 Decaying Skeletons in the Eastern Commonlands.

    Reward 520 XP, 80 gold · reaches level 5
  5. The Desert of Ra

Go to the team board in the plaza, start or join a team, pick the Desert of Ra and set out when everyone has readied up. The quest completes the moment you arrive.

How a run works

Teams, threat and staying alive

Forming a team

Open the team board (T, or walk to the board in the plaza). Start a team or join an open one, pick the zone, and press Ready. When the leader starts, the team travels to its own private copy of the zone.

Threat

Every hit and every heal makes threat. Each monster attacks whoever has made the most against it, so let the Warrior pull first and Taunt anything that turns on a healer.

Winning

Kill the zone's boss to win. Everyone still in the run gets the completion reward. Monsters never come back in a run, and there is no time limit.

Dying

A living Cleric can revive you where you fell. With no Cleric standing, you go back to Freeport. Dying wears down your gear.

Gear and the forge

Buy weapons and seven pieces of armor at the stalls, wear them from the Backpack, and repair worn gear at the forge. Bosses drop epic items that cannot be bought.

Potions and food

Healing and mana draughts work at once. Food restores health over a few seconds. Out of combat, health comes back on its own.
